Crown Lifting

The selective removal of lower branches of the tree crown. This raises the height of the lower branches of the tree canopy from the ground. It should be carried out in the earlier stages of a tree’s life and subsequently maintained to allow pedestrian passage below the tree to permit maintenance, and also to prevent conflict with neighbouring trees and buildings.

Crown Thinning/Dead Wooding

A process aimed at reducing the branch volume throughout the crown of the tree. Work here is mainly aimed at removing dead, damaged or poorly formed branch growth benefitting the tree by allowing a greater passage of light, air and windflow.

Pollarding

A particularly common method of tree care in France, pollard techniques are a severe approach to pruning branch length in a method forcing size and containment of the tree. Once this method of pruning has been established it will be necessary to re-pollard on a cycle of normally between 3-5 years to maintain required shape and size.
